U13A Cubs continue undefeated streak in high-scoring game

The Sunshine Coast U13A Cubs were able to continue their undefeated streak in the summer ball season with a high scoring game on Sunday, July 19.

The Sunshine Coast U13A Cubs were able to continue their undefeated streak in the summer ball season with a high scoring game on Sunday, July 19. The Cubs edged out the visiting Tsawwassen Athletics 21-18, with both teams scoring runs all through the game.  The Cubs hit two home runs in the game, with Owen Tripp hitting a four-run homer in the first, and Max Pasieka-Beck scoring a homer in the sixth.

An early lead helped propel the Cubs to victory with six runs in the first inning. Both teams did well at bat and kept the game close to the very end. The Cubs took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning. Jaxon Quinn-Young singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Wyatt Husband then singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, Kalani Davis doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and Kaden Owen-Duff singled on the first pitch at bat, scoring a run.

The Cubs were able to score five runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Kaden Owen-Duff, Max Pasieka-Beck, and Owen Tripp.

After Tsawwassen scored two runs in the top of the fifth, the Cubs answered with two of their own. Tsawwassen scored one more and the home team answered when Henry Pednaud doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Jaxon Quinn-Young then singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Nathan Stubley earned the win for the Cubs, pitching the first three and a third innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out eight. Henry Pednaud, Wyatt Husband, and Lucas Lekakis all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Wyatt recorded the last three outs to close the victory for the Cubs.

The team racked up 25 hits on the day. Owen, Kalani, Kadan, Nathan, Max, Jaxon, and Henry each racked up multiple hits for the Cubs. Kadan, Kalani, and Owen each collected four hits to lead the team.

The Cubs stole 15 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Nathan led the way with three.

The Sunshine Coast U13A Cubs are working hard to maintain their undefeated record on the summer season, with four games remaining in the schedule. They will play a double header in Burnaby on Saturday, July 24, then host a rematch against Vancouver Minor on July 25 at noon.
