The Thunderbirds had a strong game last Saturday, defeating KLM Milan in the first round of the Pioneer Cup soccer match in Vancouver.

The Sunshine Coast boys U16 rep team celebrated victory over rival KLM Milan in the first round of the Pioneer Cup soccer match which took place at Memorial South Park in Vancouver last Saturday.

This cup is a knockout competition, putting the Thunderbirds up to the second round.

The Thunderbirds had a very strong game. They pressed the opposition into making many mistakes. Casey Baines was on fire, scoring the game’s only goal, and he was assisted by the solid skills of Jamie Mundy. The defence line of Quinn Huibers, Will Magnussen, Angelo Pinsonnault and Coulter Prestage was a powerful force throughout the game. Nicholas Davis, Warner Endert, Ben Luporini and Philip Fogarty gave it their all in the mid-field positions and the team was anchored by new goalie Tim Haubner, who has joined the team this year from Germany.

Next round of cup action will be Nov. 14.
