The Second Annual Puckin’ Coasters Kickball Tournament raised money for the Canucks Autism Network.

For the second year running, the New Kicks on the Block (NKOTB) assembled a savvy group of players to test all challengers at the Second Annual Puckin’ Coasters Kickball Tournament. The event raised funds for the Canucks Autism Network (CAN), which delivers programs to children, youth, and adults across B.C.

Kickball –– that chaotic, nostalgic staple of elementary school recess –– the great equalizer, where raw athleticism meets a bouncy, unpredictable ball, and every player can contribute. More than 30 athletes showed up as The Crew of Cam, The Randy Bunch, and New Kicks on the Block battled on a glorious Sunday morning. Round Robin play concluded with The Crew of Cam squaring off against The Randy Bunch to determine who would face the favourite, NKOTB, in the final. Despite strong defense and kicks by Ashley and Dustin A., The Randy Bunch couldn’t stop the momentum of Cam’s crew, led by his powerful kicking game.

The final saw a rested NKOTB face Crew of Cam with momentum on their side. NKOTB mixed in some heavy kicks, some little bunts, and some blazing speed to take an early lead, but The Crew of Cam chipped away and were able to get key outs with big defensive contributions from Sophie and Dion. Bradley’s NKOTB team was led by the speedy Dustin R. and the versatility of Sara, both of whom were solid in the win. In the end, NKOTB pulled off the repeat, but the real win was the spirit of the day: laughter, hustle, high-fives, and a shared love of sport and community. A carefree reminder of how fun it can be to just play.

A special thanks to Eye Deal (Gibsons) and Vancouver Canadians for their generous prize donations.
