Terry Fox Run

The Terry Fox Run will be on the Sunshine Coast, Sept. 18 in two locations: Gibsons and Roberts Creek. People of all ages and abilities are invited to take part.

In Gibsons, the run will be held at Gibsons and Area Community Centre with registration starting at 8 a.m. The run officially starts at 9:30 a.m.

The Roberts Creek run will take place at Roberts Creek Elementary with registration opening at 9:30 a.m. and the run starting at 10 a.m.

Participants can choose between courses of one, three, five or 10 km at both locations. People can sign up on the day of the event or register early at www.terryfox.org and start taking donations for the run right away.

The annual events raise money for cancer research in Terry Fox’s name.

Texas Scramble

Sunday, Sept. 18 is the John Nicholls Memorial Ninth Annual CanaDares Charity Texas Scramble Golf, Dinner and Auction Fundraiser at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club in Roberts Creek.

Tournament starts at 12:30 p.m. and dinner is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with a silent auction from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

All funds raised go to CanaDares’ home for children in Tanzania. More info at www.canadares.ca.

Lacrosse

Field lacrosse starts this Thursday at Cliff Gilker field from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Registration is $70 and can be paid at the field. Practice is once a week every Thursday, same time and place.

Disconnect to Reconnect

Cris Rowan, CEO of Zone’in Programs Inc., will present Disconnect to Reconnect, a talk on raising awareness regarding the impact of technology on child development, behaviour and learning. Rowan will be providing initiatives to manage balance between technology use and healthy activities, so you can work toward creating what she terms “sustainable” children.

Georgia Cyr, owner of Blissful Yoga Studio, will kick off the evening with half an hour of deep breathing and simple, seated stretches to counteract the stiff neck, slumped shoulders, and sore hips we often experience as a result of spending too much time on our phones or at our computers.

The event is Friday, Sept. 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Council Building, 5714 Medusa St. in Sechelt. The event is free; register at [email protected]
