In just under two weeks, thousands of participants throughout B.C. will join countless others across the country and around the world in the 28th annual Terry Fox Run.

On the Coast, the community Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Roberts Creek Elementary School. This venue provides an opportunity for participants to utilize the gravel loop that circles the field (for the 3 km run) and the quiet streets around the school for the 5 and 10 km events.Registration will open at 9:30 a.m., with the official start for the 5 and 10 km run at 10 a.m. Participants not competing may start anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m While it is called a run, participants are encouraged to walk, jog, bike or wheel as well. Once again, many draw prizes have been graciously donated by local businesses.

This run is an important fund-raising event for cancer research. Participants are encouraged to either make donations or seek pledges. Pledge forms are available at Trail Bay Source for Sports, Pharmasave, Strait Coffee and the Medicine Shoppe.

Last year over 60 participants took part in the Roberts Creek Community Run, raising almost $2,000 for cancer research. The first Terry Fox Run in 1981 attracted 300,000 participants across Canada and raised $3.5 million. To date, more than $400 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry's name.
