The annual Ted Bowe Memorial Barrel Race (TBMBR) had a great turnout of 27 riders and horses last Saturday at the Sunshine Coast Equestrian Club Arena.
The power and magnificence of the horses and riders was a sight to see. Warm weather and overcast skies made it a great day for a horse race.
Standings in the barrel race are based on time trials, although many of the riders chose to take it slow and show off their beautifully groomed steeds.
Cathy Ingraham and her horse Jake came in first in the seniors division at 21.748.

Emily Jasinski and her horse Luna came in first in the junior barrel race at 22.892. They were followed by Ayla Stockwell and her horse Red Renegade at 22.909.
Sarah MacDonald and her horse Bo won the 1D open category at 17.465. MacDonald also won the 2D category with a different horse, Tripp, in a time of 20.222.
Talia Walkey and Ringo Starr won the 3D open with 21.527. And Bobbi Weber and Max won the 4D open with 23.358.
Attendance and participation had been a bit in decline in past years for the TBMBR, but it has recently been growing again.
The TBMBR was created to keep alive the memory of the great cowboy Ted Bowe who was very involved in the local equestrian community.
Bowe brought pro bull riders and wild horse riders up to the Coast and filled the stands with spectators.
The Ted Bowe consists of a barrel pattern and a pole pattern, along with demos from the local Coastal Cowgirls drill team and the junior drill team.
