Turn your Sunday stroll into something special by joining the Special Olympics Sunshine Coast Walkathon at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park.
The 2.5 km walkathon on Sunday, April 30, will see participants raise funds through collecting pledges in the community and then taking to the trails in the park.
“All funds raised by the walkathon stay on the Sunshine Coast to support new and ongoing sports programs, uniform and equipment purchases, transportation and competition costs,” a press release from Special Olympics Sunshine Coast stated.
This year, pledges will also help support the Coast’s Special Olympians travelling to the Provincial Summer Games in Kamloops July 6 to 8.
The Walkathon starts with registration at 1:30 p.m.
If you would like to get involved as a participant or want to offer your pledge to someone who is, go to www.sobcsunshinecoast.kintera.org. More information about the walkathon is also available at that link.
There are currently over 60 Special Olympians participating in 13 sports programs including basketball, bocce, curling, floor hockey, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, track and field.
