On April 11, the Chinook Swim Club held a swim fundraiser to earn money to take the swimmers off-Coast for their first competitive swim meet in years. Twenty swimmers collected pledges and did as many laps of the pool as they could in half an hour. They raised $4,300, enough to take them to the Whistler Sea Wolves Invitational meet for a weekend of racing in Whistler May 23 and 24.
The Chinook Swim Club has been on the Coast since 1989 when it was based out of the Gibsons Pool. The club now has 45 committed swimmers and eight volunteer coaches who train the swimmers three days a week out of the three pools on the Coast.
A big thanks to the community that helped sponsor a swimmer in our fundraiser, and to Gibsons Building Supplies, the Sunshine Coast Credit Union, the Sunshine Coast Regional District and the province of British Col-umbia Community Gaming Grant Branch for funding that has helped put this swim club back on the map.
