The KidSport Sunshine Coast committee attended a recent Sunshine Coast Lions Club meeting in Sechelt to present the Lions with a community championship certificate to commend them on their community support and thank them for their 2016 donation of $8,096.
“It is hard to imagine our community thriving without sport,” KidSport co-chair Diane Wagner said. “According to the True Sport Foundation, 85 per cent of Canadians believe that sport participation builds stronger communities. Our organization believes it is so very important to support our youth as much as we can when they express an interest to participate in a sport.”
KidSport Sunshine Coast is thrilled to have the continued support of the Sunshine Coast Lions Club. The Lions partnered with KidSport over six years ago and since that time, have made a commitment to sponsor Sechelt and area youth in any B.C.-recognized sport of the child’s choice.
To date they have donated an amazing $41,626 – supporting 255 kids in sports. Without this financial support, none of these children would have been able to participate in aerobics, baseball, basketball, dance, gymnastics, hockey, judo, lacrosse, riding, skating, snowshoeing, soccer, swimming, tennis or yoga.
“The Lions have supported our youth on the Coast in sports as early as the 1970s,” KidSport director Jim Gray said. “They helped sponsor team uniforms and registration fees back then. Their weekly meat raffles and other fundraising events raise money in the community for organizations such as KidSport.”
If anyone in the community is interested in joining the Lions Club or helping out at any of their events, call 604-885-3822 or email [email protected].
