When you enter 13 cyclists into the final B.C. Cup mountain bike race of the season, and you finish with 11 medals, six provincial champions and five B.C. Cup points winners, you definitely have earned some bragging rights. The Sunshine Coast Cycling Club (SCC) did just that at the two-day racing weekend at Mt. Washington, finishing off an outstanding season for the young racers.
In the junior cross-country category, Katherine Short took the women's provincial championship, and Sebastian Sleep swept the junior men's, winning the provincial title in both cross-country and marathon, and took the B.C. Cup title as well. Similar results for SCC were achieved in the U15 category, with Louis Dillon winning the men's championship and the B.C Cup.
In senior women, Christine Lynch was tops in B.C. Cup points as well. Other medal winners in cross-country included Jessica Marquis, third in junior women; Jonas Lomax, third in U15 men; Eric Dillon, third in U19 citizen men; Eric Lalonde, fifth in senior men; and Sarah Fedor, sixth in junior women.
In the downhill category, Harrison Duxbury-Sleep in U15 men and Holly Feniak in U15 women both claimed the provincial championship and B.C. Cup titles.
In U17 men, Linden Feniak was third, while Jenna Phelps was third in junior women, and Kelsey Begg narrowly missed a podium finish, as she was fourth in U15 women.
Several SCC members have continued racing into the fall with entries in the Cheakamus Challenge Marathon and the Cyclocross events. Katherine took first place at Cheakamus and at the B women's Delta Cross race, Jesse Horn finished seventh at Cheakamus, and Sebastian won the men's B category at the Delta Cross. Sebastian has been selected to represent Cycling B.C. at the Cyclocross National Championships on Saturday.
