Gus Goerzen, local Elphi grad and product of the Sunshine Coast Basketball Club (SCBC), recently returned from Rancagua, Chile representing Team Canada on the Men’s FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League 2023 – Americas. The new young team claimed stop five of the tournament and finished third overall. This fall, Gus is transferring to the UBC Vancouver T-Birds after three USport seasons with the UBC Okanagan Heat. He recently wrapped up an amazing opportunity this summer to work on his skill set training with the Vancouver Bandits, who kicked off off the Canadian Elite Basketball League’s championship weekend Aug.11 at the Langley Events Centre. Gus remains grateful for the solid foundation built here on the Sunshine Coast with his teammates and high school basketball coaches Mike Sopow, Bob Hoy and Shane Heuring.
