2016 Sun Run
Coasters are heading to the Sun Run on Sunday, April 17 – and many of them have trained with the Sun Run InTraining clinics right here on the Coast.
The Sechelt clinic is led by Larry Nightingale, although all InTraining clinics follow the same training regiment for three pace groups – learn to run, run stronger and a walking group.
“It’s a program that gradually increases distance and time – we start in January – to get runners and walkers ready for the Sun Run,” group leader Teresa Nightingale said.
Nightingale said there are about 40 people in the Gibsons InTraining group – which is the larger of the
two clinics on the Coast – although, she added, not all of them make it to the race.
At the same time, other Coasters who did not take part in the training groups will also be competing.
“In past years I remember looking at results and there were over 120 local people in it,” Nightingale said. “The clinics are just one small part of that – plus a lot of people do it on their own.”
Sunshine Coaster
There is still time to register for the Sunshine Coaster bike race on April 30, presented by Sunshine Coast Cycling, but spots are filling up fast.
This year the race loops through West Sechelt – which is a new location; previously the race has been held in Roberts Creek.
You can choose to compete in either the marathon or short course version. The course has been marked and can be ridden by anyone wanting to give it a trial run.

Car Wash
The newly minted girls rugby team at Chatelech Secondary is holding a fundraiser carwash on Sunday, April 17 at the Independent gas bar in Sechelt for a tournament trip to Kamloops.
“I’ve been amazed by the turnout and the commitment level from these girls and would like to try anything to help them to grow their school team and the sport on the Coast,” head coach Mike Clucas said.
