Spirit of B.C.The Sunshine Coast Arena is hosting a celebration for the Spirit of B.C. week (Feb. 9 to 17) and a number of programs and events will be focused on during the week.

The celebration at the arena starts off tomorrow (Feb. 10) with a free family style skate from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. (rentals are also free). During the skate there will be a demonstration from the Sunshine Coast Skating Club. Coaches will be on hand to field any questions for people interested in joining the club.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m. the Midget rep squad will have a high-tempo practice that the public is invited to come out and watch.The Sunshine Coast adult recreation hockey leagues take centre stage in the evening.

The men's A-division game at 7:15 p.m. features the Inlet Raiders and the S.C. Building Centre/Ross Concrete Razorbacks.At 9 p.m., the women's league takes to the ice as the Vipers challenge the Hornets.

The fun continues next Thursday, Feb. 15, with a demonstration by the Pacific Blades Speed Skating Club starting at 5:45 p.m. and a special minor hockey tyke division game starting at 6:45 p.m.

RugbyGibsons Pigs began the second half of regular season play on the losing end of a 19-12 decision to Chilliwack last Saturday.Gibsons will look to rebound tomorrow (Feb. 10) with the first of two home games this month. Pigs entertain Port Alberni with a 1 p.m. kick-off at Elphinstone Secondary School.

Pigs are also home on Feb. 24 when they host Thompson Rivers University from Kamloops.

Smokie sightingSechelt's David Arduin and the Trail Smoke Eaters will be in town next Friday.

The team will practice at the arena starting at 1:45 p.m. and the community is invited to come check it out.

Trail is in Powell River next Saturday night for a game against the Kings.
