Sunday night at the Sechelt Indian Band Hall was electrified with All Star Wrestling back on the Sunshine Coast, but this was not just any night of wrestling. This time, it was Midget Time.
Headlining the night, 18-year wrestling veteran Short Sleeve Sampson took down up-and-comer Little Fabio in the biggest little brawl Sechelt had ever seen.
“It was a tough match. Little Fabio is tough competition,” Sampson said. “We’ve been touring all over B.C. for the Midget Time Tour and it all came to a close here tonight, here in this great town.”
The Midget Time Tour started in Abbotsford on March 23, moved to Squamish then Surrey and finally ended in Sechelt after four nights of pint-sized insanity. Sampson – the reigning champion – held on to the Midget Wrestling Warriors World Champion Belt after besting Little Fabio four nights in a row.
“I expected a much different outcome,” Little Fabio admitted after the match. “I think for the time being I’m just going to have to let this one go – for now. I’m going to be back for it and next time I’m going to crush him.”
The fight got off to an unsavoury start when the referee had to step in and stop Sampson from “helping” Little Fabio into the ring. Sampson insisted that he was just offering assistance, but the ref did not buy it.
The match descended from there into hair pulling, slapping and insult hurling, as well as – of course – a lot of body slamming. Little Fabio was left exhausted after a drawn-out, epic, short fight and Sampson seized the opportunity to end it once and for all with his signature finisher move, the worm.
Just like the 1980s break dancing move, Sampson wormed across the stage to the incapacitated Little Fabio for one final slam that ended the night and the Midget Time Tour – for now.
Sampson thanked everyone for coming out and supporting All Star Wrestling. “What it really comes down to is the fans that have come out – all the Sampsonites – to support me, to support All Star Wrestling,” Sampson said. “If it wasn’t for these guys, there’s no way I would be able to do everything I did tonight.”
Also in the ring Sunday, Girls Gone Wrestling’s Bambi Hall took down Sloan. The All American Azeem the Dream crushed Nathan Kabe, the Thunder from Jalahndar was made to feel the Devastation Pain, and Kobra Kai executed Matt Xstatic after a three-round bout for the cruiserweight title.
