Jordan Robinson – who is a 6-foot-6-inch 230-pound defencemen – was one of several boys to leave the Sunshine Coast this year to go to a new high school and play hockey at the Junior Level. Robinson was traded from Delta Ice Hawks to the Surrey Knights in December 2016 and quickly earned top spot on the Knights defensive line. Although not a stellar year for the Knights in terms of wins, it allowed Robinson to gain valuable ice time to improve on his skills and abilities, helping him achieve the team’s Top Defenceman Award.
Robinson, who had lived in Sechelt since birth, played hockey last year for the Sunshine Coast Midget Blues Rep A hockey team, which took second place in the Tier 3 Provincial Championship held in Gibsons last year. Robinson started out playing Rep Hockey as a second-year Bantam and helped the Sunshine Coast Blues Bantam Rep A and Midget Rep A teams he played on make it to the Provincials three years in row. During his first Provincial Tournament in 2014 at age 14, Robinson was scouted by the WHL Everett Silvertips and was asked to attend their main camp, which was one of his personal hockey highlights.
Coming home early from his Knights Hockey team due to an early end to the Knights’ season recently, Robinson played for the Chatelech Secondary hockey team, which recently attended the Ross Cup Tournament in Victoria where there was some great competition. The team won second place overall and Robinson took MVP for the first game and won the Tournaments Skills competition, taking first place for the fastest skater. Most recently Robinson also broke a Chatelech school record for dry land training on the rowing machine. Robinson credits much of his success to many of his former hockey coaches and to Kurt Munson at Valhalla for his dry land fitness training.
