Riding with passion

Spring Horse Trials

Emily Jaschinski of Roberts Creek riding Lion King in the Spring Horse Trials at the Maple Ridge Equi-sport Centre on the weekend of June 4 and 5.

Jaschinski trains with Jeanine Ellingham of Sechelt.

“Horses are [Jaschinski]’s passion. She works hard at it,” Ellingham said. “She can get on any horse and bring out the best in it.”

Lion King is relatively new to equestrian sport competitions and has spent most of his life as a basic pleasure horse.

Jaschinski has competed to the training level of eventing. According to Ellingham, this is the first serious level of competition. Jaschinski has also competed to the meter 10 in show jumping.

Jaschinski and Lion King finished in the middle of the pack, which Ellingham said was commendable for a horse with only three months of training – and a credit to Jaschinski’s riding abilities.

“Lion King is very smart. He’s learned quickly and he’s willing, brave and full of enthusiasm,” Ellingham said. “He picked it up really quickly.”
