RCMP take on SOSC athletes

Special Olympic Sunshine Coast
SOSC
Members of the Sunshine Coast RCMP and Special Olympic athletes battled it out on the soccer field on June 12.

On June 12, local RCMP members took to the Chatelech soccer field for a final invitational game with the Special Olympic Sunshine Coast (SOSC) soccer teams and played their hearts out on a modified field.

A solid turnout of spectators enjoyed lovely weather and socializing while cheering on their friends and family members.

The saves, goals and amazing foot skills were fast and furious and evenly performed by both RCMP and athletes. They also loved the pizza, always a highlight.

This is not the final soccer game of the season, however. That honour falls on June 26 at Shirley Macey Park in Gibsons. Immediately following is the Special Olympics Sunshine Coast AGM.

Special thanks to officers Kevin Sheppard, Ed Harrison, Kyle Hrynyk, Sherry Robinson, Greg Horning and the countless other RCMP who take time to play with our SOSC athletes. They cannot compete with us in the pool, but they still come out for floor hockey, basketball and soccer.

Special thanks to Lisa Harrison of the SOSC executive and coaches Richard Hoath, Mike Gojevic and Heather O’Donnell for organizing this event.
