Girls and boys, coaches and parent volunteers in School District No. 46 returned to the volleyball courts this past week and finished with their year-end Playdays.
In the girls’ Playday, teams from Gibsons and Roberts Creek were clearly the match of the day. In a fabulous final, Gibsons girls persevered 26-24 in the A flight final over arch rival Roberts Creek to take back home the Lee and Janice Brown Memorial A Flight trophy.
Halfmoon Bay dominated in the B flight, with both teams advancing to play each other in the final. In possibly the most exciting game of the day, it was West Sechelt prevailing in a nail-biter win 25-22 to take the C flight division over Roberts Creek to close out the day.
Players and coaches would like to thank John Brisebois and his staff, especially Clint Fox and the Elphinstone girls’ referees: Hana Ingram, Emma Cooney, Geordie Owen, Grace Kidd, Alex Palmer, Haley Shelemey and Taylor Hincks, who did a wonderful job officiating the games.
April McKnight and Jon Fawcus hosted the grade 4/5 volleyball jamboree at Pender High, and are also to be thanked for the use of their gym.
