Charity Hockey Game

The School District No. 46 Charity Ice Hockey Game in support of Sunshine Coast Food Bank is on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the game is a $2 donation.

Students and staff from the North district are pitted against students and staff from the South district. Come out, see some of the Coast’s finest hockey talent and support the local food bank.

Pigs vs. Panthers

The Pigs take on the Panthers in the Charity Hockey Challenge VIII on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre. Last year’s match was an epic contest, ending in a final decision shootout. The challenge for a rematch was laid out before the evening was done.

Donations are collected from each team for the local food bank. Items most needed are: canned fish and meats, canned fruit and vegetables, tetra boxed juices, powdered milk, canned beans, rice, peanut butter, pasta sauce, pasta and boxed macaroni and cheese.

Turkey Shoot

KidSport is holding its annual Turkey Shoot on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Blackfish Pub, starting at 4 p.m.  This is a huge community event sponsored by every grocer on the Coast – all the MarketPlace IGAs, Your Independent Grocer, SuperValu and Claytons Heritage Market contribute the turkeys for the draws and the Blackfish Pub hosts the event. Two turkeys are drawn every 15 minutes, starting at 4:30 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. – a total of 30 birds will be raffled. In addition, there is a separate draw at 8 p.m. for other prizes.

KidSport has helped 900 kids on the Coast to be able to play a sport through sponsoring registrations. All monies raised at this event go directly into helping kids.
