One-way downhill to the beach

Mountain Biking

Cruising downhill on a full suspension mountain bike is the ultimate bike ride experience. It’s time to check your brakes for a downhill bike ride that begins at the dump and ends up at the beach on Davis Bay.

For this ride, you will need a driver to take you to the top of the trail and later to meet you at the bottom. Go out Porpoise Bay Road and turn right at Dusty Road. A short distance past the dump is a road on the right that has a gate across it. Stop here and drop the bikers off. The driver can then go to the end point at Davis Bay.

After you get your bike around the gate, follow the road. The road goes gently downhill for a little while and then it becomes steep. At the top of the steep part, look for the entrance to the BLT Trail on the right. There is a bicycle wheel nailed to a tree at the start of the trail.  The trail begins as a narrow single track and continues on to become a single track on the side of a steep hillside. Take this part of the trail slowly; it goes downhill quickly and there are some tight switchbacks near the bottom.

The trail bottoms out at Chapman Creek Falls and this is a good place to dismount and take a look around.

From Chapman Falls follow the pipeline and then the trail that takes you to the pumphouse building. Going past the pumphouse down the road a little way, watch carefully for Chapman Creek Trail on the left. When you find the trail, follow it to the power line. On the other side of the power line, go a little to the right to continue on the trail. It is now a straight shot from here all the way to Sky Lark Road just above Davis Bay.

If you plan this ride on a sunny summer day, the payoff is a nice downhill cruise on your bike and a relaxing time on the beach at Davis Bay.
