Local skater Tracy Parker will compete in the Adult Ladies Bronze event with other adult skaters from numerous other countries.
It has been a little challenging to train with no ice on the Sunshine Coast since March. Parker has been travelling to Burnaby on Thursdays after work to catch a session, staying over to do an early morning session and catch the ferry back to the Coast for work on Friday. Most of her competitors train daily.
With the phenomenal growth of adult figure skating around the world, the International Skating Union (ISU) hosts an Adult Figure Skating Competition in Obersdorf, Germany in free skating, artistic free skating, ice dancing, pair skating and synchronized skating. This year will see a second ISU Adult International Competition, which will take place at the end of August in Vancouver for the first time.
The Skate Canada long-term athlete development model (LTAD) has six stages beginning with Learn to Skate and ending with Active for Life, focusing on lifelong participation.
Members of the Sunshine Coast Skating Club wish Parker good luck and are very proud of her accomplishments!
