Last game of the season

Roller Derby

Aug. 27 saw the Red Tide Warning play against a mixed team of members of both the Sea to Sky Sirens from Squamish and from Powell River.

The game started slow for the home team with the visiting team taking a large lead early on, but the local girls – with deft jamming by Skid Doll and Moose – rallied hard in the second half. The team did their best to block the highly efficient jamming of opposition players Princess Slayah and Maladjusted from Squamish and, although they caught up, they were never able to gain the lead. The game ended with a 99 to 171 score for the visiting team.

Even though this was the last game of the season for the team, there will be a scrimmage on Sept. 10 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sechelt arena, which will be open to the public.

For anyone interested in learning more about roller derby and how to become a player or referee, the league is hosting an information night 7 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in West Sechelt. This event is open to male and female skaters.
