Sunshine Coast KidSport received a donation of $665 from the Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association (SCYSA) on Nov. 9. The money will be put towards sponsoring local, aspiring child athletes.

“We want to ensure that kids in our community who want to will have the opportunity to experience the power of sport,” KidSport co-chair Diane Wagner said.

“The soccer association really appreciates all the support we have received from KidSport, which has allowed a number of our players to enjoy the sport,” SCYSA co-house director Marnie Marshall said.

KidSport has sponsored 767 kids from Port Mellon to Earls Cove since it launched in 2008. SCYSA recently increased its registration fees by one dollar per child with the proceeds going to KidSport.

KidSport director Brent Rottluff said the extra money would be enough to sponsor several additional youths who want to play soccer.

KidSport Canada is a national organization with chapters all across the country.

The KidSport annual turkey shoot at the Blackfish Pub will be back this year on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. Two turkeys are raffled every 15 minutes for a total of 30 birds with the money going back to KidSport.

“Every year at Christmas all the local grocery stores chip in and donate turkeys,” Wagner said. “It’s wonderful.”
