Roberts Creek's Brianna Kane has set her sights to the future, committing to Simon Fraser University (SFU) on Monday. The Clan track and field team made the announcement on Monday.
Brianna, a Grade 12 student at Elphin-stone Secondary School, was fourth in the 400 m at the B.C. high school track and field championships as a Grade 11 runner. She comes to SFU as one of the top 400 m runners in the province.
"Brianna has lots of speed for the 800 m and can help us in cross country and on the track in both the 400 m and the 800 m," said SFU head coach Brit Townsend in a news release. "She is also a very strong student, which makes her an excellent fit for our program."
Brianna said she is looking forward to studying kinesiology at SFU and is anxious to begin training alongside SFU's top runners and learning from coach Townsend.
"I have to travel to Vancouver in order to train," said Brianna. "I'm really looking forward to training at SFU and taking advantage of all the facilities have to offer."
Brianna said SFU contacted her last December. She went on a tour of the facilities later that month and signed her letter of intent a few weeks ago.
"The facilities are great, but really my decision was based on the coach. She's fantastic," Brianna said.
Brianna is still actively training in Vancouver with the Thunderbirds track club every Friday and Sunday.
