Junior golf alive and well

Twenty-nine juniors aged seven to 14 braved all kinds of threatening weather to participate in the junior spring break clinic at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club (SCGCC) March 18 to 20.

Twenty-nine juniors aged seven to 14 braved all kinds of threatening weather to participate in the junior spring break clinic at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club (SCGCC) March 18 to 20.

The rising golf stars had a chance to work on their full swing, putting, chipping and pitching during the three-day clinic. New friends were made and it was obvious that the golf bug had bitten many in attendance.

The Club wishes to thank all the junior participants and star volunteer John Henderson, who proved how important it is to get professional help with your golf swing early in life. Congratulations also goes out to putting contest winners Jacob Chabot, Keenan Flemming, Rebecca Armstrong and Ali Gow. Some of our more experienced juniors, the Elphinstone Secondary School golf team, began practice on Monday, March 24, and look to improve on their very respectable 3-3 record from last year. Returning team members, including Jesse Ostrosky, Max Fisher, Jake Davidson, Tyler Nestman, Clark Graham, Gage Stokolas, Connor Richey and Stuart Richey will form a solid foundation for this year's team. The first match is slated for Monday, March 31, vs Chatelech at the SCGCC.

The junior program at the SCGCC has been expanded in 2008 to juniors aged six to 18 and includes the passport to golf program. Each junior member will receive a personalized passport to golf which will encourage them to get involved and track their progress in all elements of the program including range games, skills competitions, social events and fundraising.

Also new is the KidsKlubs program to ensure junior members have a set of properly sized clubs for the year (for only $50 plus deposit). Full details of the program as well as membership applications are available at www.sunshinecoastgolf.com under the junior golf section.
