Players and spectators alike endured blazing hot temperatures last weekend during the annual Sunshine Coast Slo-Pitch League tournament June 3 to 5 at Kinnikinnick Park in Sechelt.
Renamed the Jamie Ross Memorial in honour of the well-liked and passionate former league executive member who passed away in 2015, the tournament included 18 local teams and more than 200 ball players.
The division finals on Sunday afternoon featured two close games and one blowout, with Sandlot defeating Big Deals 17-3 for the A Division title, Dream Team edging the Inlet Raiders 6-5 in the B Division, and Baggers taking C Division with a 9-8 win over Mixed Nuts.
The most sportsmanlike team award was given to the league’s newest squad, the Farm Hands, whose positive energy and enthusiasm has been noted by many this season and serves as a reminder that one can still have a lot of fun while competing to win.
