The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is offering a new volunteer hockey referee program on Dec. 3 at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.
It takes a lot of people to pull together a great sport like hockey. The referee is there to keep the notion of fair play for each and every game that is played.
This program is intended to benefit individuals 16-plus who are interested in officiating in public hockey games, as well as in Men’s Hockey League games. Other benefits include mentorship by experienced referees, experience, volunteer hours and BC Hockey certification.
Training is free of charge in exchange for volunteering as a referee for the remainder of the 2016 to 2017 Men’s Hockey League season.
