Halfmoon Bay’s Avery Struck received the first Great American Conference Golf (GACG) Award of the spring season on March 2.
Avery’s father Tim Struck said the award came as a surprise for his daughter.
“She was happy,” Struck said. “She wasn’t thoroughly overwhelmed with the scores she had shot, but she definitely was surprised more than anything that she was picked as the person to win the award.”
Avery played in the St. Edward’s Invitational on Feb. 22-23. She finished the tournament in a tie for 19th out of the 80-player field, scoring a 155 (77, 78) for a 15-over-par.
“She’s doing very well, her academics are right where she wants them to be,” Struck said. “She’s enjoying it, she’s enjoying life and playing on the team and being with the girls. She has a great coach. I can’t say anymore than she’s having fun with it.”
The GACG award is given to the top golfer in the Great American Conference about every month. Avery took home the award for the Feb. 15 to March 1 time frame.
She is currently competing in the Midwestern State Invitational at the Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, Tex., where the Golden Suns are sitting in first place of the tournament.
