Grade 8 Elphi girls dominate volleyball

The Elphinstone Grade 8 girls’ volleyball team played a fantastic game on Sept. 30, dominating the court with a 3-0 win against Mulgrave Secondary.

“The skillset on the Coast really, really showed through. The foundational skills were far beyond their opponents,” Elphi principal and game referee John Brisebois said. “It was a dominant performance – very traditional volleyball, three hits, solid play. Overall, their serving was their strength.”

They played a format called triple ball where one team serves then both teams each get a free ball, then the teams rotate and the other team gets to serve.

“What it actually does is it creates more of a controlled game instead of allowing one team to serve the other team off the court,” Brisebois said.

Brisebois said the Elphi girls showed a high level of skill.

“We tend not to – in Grade 8 and Grade 9 –identify MVPs of matches or anything like that just because at that particular age group chemistry is what we’re trying to promote,” Brisebois said.

The Elphi Grade 8 girls’ next home game is on Oct. 14.
