Canadian Junior downhill mountain bike champion Magnus Manson from Sechelt is heading to Vallnord, Andora for the Mountain Bike World Championship running from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6.
Manson was selected for the Canadian team based on his success at the National Championships in July.
“My goal is to try and get my best result of the year facing off against international competition,” Manson said. “And also to enjoy the last race of the year as much as I can.”
Manson will need to finish in 17th place or better to accomplish his goal. He races over the Sept. 5-6 long weekend.
“It’s seems pretty unreal,” Manson said. “It’s crazy to think I started racing downhill bikes four years ago and I am now competing at the highest level possible in the world championships.
“I feel extremely honoured to represent Canada on the world stage and I am amazed with what you can do when you put your mind to something you really wants.”
Manson will return home from Europe on Labour Day and head right back to school the next day. After seven weeks racing in Canada, the United States and Europe, Manson said that he is looking forward to slowing things down for a couple weeks.
