Former Chatelech Eagle Tanya deVries is shining with another group of Eagles.

Tanya, a Grade 11 forward with Carson Graham, is off to the AAA senior girls' provincial basketball championships March 14 to 17 at Capilano College in North Vancouver.

Carson Graham won the Lower Mainland AAA zone finals with a 59-51 win over Sutherland Saturday night at Handsworth Secondary School.

It's the first zone finals trophy for the Eagles since 1978.

Tanya scored the first four points for Carson in the first quarter, but got into foul trouble early, forcing coach Vern Porter to bench her so she could be available later in the game.

Tanya came back in the game and late in the fourth quarter reeled off four points, which sealed the win.

Carson pulled off an upset, defeating host Handsworth Friday night to set up the final against Sutherland.

"She's looking ahead to improving her competitive game skills, both mentally and technically, in the provincials and supporting her team to be the best they can be," said Tanya's mom Jocelyn in an email to Coast Reporter. "It's more training in the off-season and big dreams for her final high school year in the fall, but for now, this is a dream come true. She's been training hard and making a lot of sacrifices both on and off the court."

Tanya is looking for a rare double title with the Eagles when they take to the court next week. She won the junior provincials last year with Carson Graham.
