The Halfmoon Bay Fire Department 10k on Oct. 2 brought out almost 50 Coasters this year, up significantly from last year.
Hosted by the HMB Volunteer Fire Department and Sunshine Coast Athletics, this fundraiser event helped pay for life-saving equipment for the fire department and helped the Chatelech and Elphinstone running teams with the cost of cross-country and track team fees, travel, entry to meets and uniforms. The total wasn’t known as of this writing, but race organizers are expecting about $1,000 for the high school teams.
There were 14 walkers and 36 runners registered for the run, and only two people didn’t show up for the start. The course went from Fire Hall No. 2 to Fire Hall No. 1 in Halfmoon Bay, with a 3.5 km loop around the Welcome Woods neighbourhood before heading north on Redrooffs Road all the way to the finish.
