Feb. 18, 2023: U15 Sunshine Coast Blues female team played Powell River Queens in the Global Girls Game.

It all started four years ago! With a friendly game with the girls of Powell River Kings, our female program was born. Today the Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association has U13 and U15 female teams, with an increase of female players in our U7-U9 development division.

We are excited to see the growth of female players in our association. Seeing our U7-U9 group welcoming so many girls is so important to the success of our program.

On Feb 18, the U15 female team was chosen to take part in the Global Girls Game. They, along with Powell River, represented B.C. in the global game. Teams all over the world took part is this game. Each team was either blue or white. When the weekend was over, they tallied the score to see who won. This fun event was part of a national promotion to bring female hockey to the spot light.

What’s next for the female program?

This March break, we are offering a free Esso girls camp from March 13 to 16 at the Gibsons arena. Girls between the ages of five and 15 can come try hockey for free at this fun camp. All gear is provided, no experience needed. To register email Kori at [email protected].
