Elementary school teams compete

Basketball

The elementary basketball season came to a conclusion with play days happening at the high schools, the week before spring break. Chatelech hosted the girls and mixed team day, and the refereeing for the day was ably handled by the Chat volunteers provided by Ellen Thomas. After a competitive round robin, Langdale defeated Cedar Grove 1 for fifth place.  West Sechelt nipped Roberts Creek 8-6 to win the B flight, and the Cedar Grove 2 girls smothered perennial champs Gibsons 11-2 to bring the A flight trophy to Cedar Grove. In the mixed division, it was an all Halfmoon Bay final, with HMB 1 doubling the HMB 2 squad 16-8. The two Kinnikinnick entries defeated Madeira Park and Ecole du Pacifique to finish as runners-up.

Thirteen teams were entered in the Boys 2017 play day held at Elphinstone, and once again, the volunteer high school referees and scorers did a wonderful job, with some very competitive basketball games being played. Coaches and players again thank Owen Schutz for organizing the officials on the very successful day. After the round robin for play-off seeding, it was Cedar Grove 2  defeating Roberts Creek 2 taking home the C flight plaque, with Kinnikinnick 2 winning the consolation final over West Sechelt 2. The B flight finals saw the Kinnikinnick 1 team defeat Gibsons 2 by a score of 13-6, while West Sechelt 1 defeated Roberts Creek 3 by 16-7 in the consolation final. The A flight finals were easily the best basketball games of the day, with the pesky Langdale 2 squad giving the Gibsons 1 team everything they could handle in the consolation final. Gibsons 1 squeaked out two late baskets to win the consolation 10-6, while the final in A flight was equally as entertaining, with the undefeated Creekers cruising to an 18-10 victory over the Langdale 1 team, to win their second A flight tourney in two years. A solid basketball program happening at Roberts Creek.
