Athletes from Grades 4 to 7 finished off their seven-week basketball season with three play days, hosted by the three Sunshine Coast high schools.
Chatelech kicked off the final week hosting the Grade 4/5 Jamboree with 11 teams entered. This was the first opportunity for most of these young players, at playing in a tournament style format, and with high energy evident, the skill levels improved dramatically over the course of the day’s event.
The following day saw the students from Pender Harbour High host the Grades 5/6/7 girls play day where nine schools entered teams. In the B flight consolation game, it was Langdale defeating the Gibsons 2 squad 10-8, while the Gibsons 1 team exacted some revenge, taking home the hardware 16-10 in the B final. In the A flight, after defeating Cedar Grove in the one-minute extra time shootout in the semi-final, the Kinnikinnick girls defeated West Sechelt in the finals to take home their first trophy in years.
In the 5/6/7 boys day, two schools were needed to host all the teams playing, with the majority of games played at Elphinstone and another six at Gibsons Elementary.
After a full day of exciting and competitive round robin play, the C flight final had the Roberts Creek boys defeating Davis Bay 8-7. In the B final, it took the Cedar Grove 2 team to brush the Kinnikinnick boys aside after finishing regulation in a 10-10 draw, winning 8-4 in the one-minute shootout.
The A final saw some thrilling basketball by both teams, with the Creek taking home the A flight trophy with a 14-8 win over Cedar Grove.
Athletes, parents and coaches would like to thank the three high schools for hosting, and acknowledge the job the volunteer high school referees did on the days.
