Gibsons Ryan Dempster tossed seven solid innings as the Chicago Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 Monday afternoon (May 26).

The win upped Dempster's record to 6-2 on the season and stopped a mini two-game losing streak for the National League Central division leading Cubs. Dempster allowed one run on seven hits, struck out three and walked two, throwing 117 pitches.

One bad pitch was all that may have stood between a win and a loss for Dempster in his other recent start.

The right-hander was effective and in control leading 2-0 over the Houston Astros on May 20, until one pitch to Hunter Pence that wasn't in the right spot was pounded by the Astros right-fielder for a grand slam and 4-2 Astros lead that turned into an eventual 4-2 Astros win.

Dempster took the loss, which saw his then record drop to 5-2. He went six innings, allowing the four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out five.

Dempster's next start is Saturday afternoon when the Cubs host the Colorado Rockies.
