The senior women's bonspiel held last weekend at the Gibsons Curling Club was a great success, thanks to all the volunteers who turned up to help make it run smoothly.
"With this year marking the fifth annual event, it was rewarding to finally have a full complement of 16 teams," said bonspiel organizer Betty Masson.
She said only five local teams entered, with the remaining teams coming from all over the Lower Mainland including Marpole, Richmond, White Rock, Chilliwack, Cloverdale, New Westminster and Langley. Competition was very stiff with the winners being the only unbeaten team over the weekend.
Barb Rawson's team (Connie Bailey, Sheila Boysen and Pam Chow) from Marpole took first place and were presented with the Nora Solinsky Memorial Trophy and a cash prize.
Second place went to the Jenny Fitzharris rink from White Rock'sPeace Arch Curling Club and third place went to the Bobbi Wallace team from the Royal City Curling Club. Fourth place in the spiel and top Gibsons team was the Betty Masson rink with Kathie Lesik, Jill Bradford and Sharon Biggin.
Besides the five games ofcompetitive curling, teams enjoyed a wonderful meal catered by Art Jones and the Waterfront Restaurant, live music by Reg and Lynne Dickson and the Music Makers and amazing raffle prizes donated by the generous community.
