The third annual Connor Richey Memorial Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, June 18 at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club.
It was an extremely wet day and the rain didn’t let up for a minute, but that did not deter any of the 100 golfers who participated. Spirits were high throughout the day and organizers were touched by the enthusiasm and dedication. There were a number of contests on the course – Longest Marshmallow Drive, Closest to the Beer Fridge and Longest Drive – that were played very competitively.
Green was the theme of the tournament as Connor’s golf bag was bright green and most of the golfers donned their best green outfits. The winning foursome of the tournament was Matt Hobson, Kevin Krake, Chris Lutes, and Derek Skytte.
The golf course put on an amazing dinner for the golfers and guests and the night was spent remembering Connor and telling many stories. His spirit was definitely felt throughout the day.
Although the final tally has not been completed, approximately $11,500 was raised for the Connor Richey Legacy Fund, which supports young Sunshine Coast athletes to pursue their dreams. Over the last year, the fund has supported athletes with tournament fees, equipment, club fees and travel costs.
