The Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre is putting on a Polar Bear Swim on Jan. 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. This is not the same as the Davis Bay Polar Bear Swim – it’s a seminar for cold water safety.
The event is being organized by Kim Watts with lifeguards Robyn Kelly and Thomas Gamble running the seminar.
They will be covering safety protocols, like the 1-10-1 rule – one minute, 10 minutes, one minute – where you have one minute to get a grip and not panic in cold water, followed by 10 minutes to get out of the water and then one minute to call for help.
This is a drop-in event and everyone is welcome to attend for a $2 fee.
There will also be games and hot chocolate.
