The Sunshine Coast Storm Girls U13 secured their first place in the division by beating the Blue Strikers on Feb. 9 in Vancouver.
This victory puts the Storm girls one point ahead of their rivals in second place, Burnaby Momentum. The Storm faces off against Momentum on Feb. 28 at Kinnikinnick Park in the BC Coastal Girls U13 Group 2 league championship game. Momentum is the only team to beat the Storm this championship league winter season.
Confusion in the middle led to a 0-0 score at the half, but they poured it on and put two in the net to win the game. Aila sent a cannonball from way outside for a brilliant goal. Paige took it through again with fantastic passing from her teammates to score the second one.
Piper, Jasmine and Ella shut down the Strikers like true grit cowgirls with a solid defence. Mary stayed in goal the whole game for the shutout. Koenn sent some of the most amazing throw-ins ever seen and used her precision kicks to send the ball to the exact player and kept it moving up the field like a pro.
Clara swirled the mid-field into a whipped delight for all to enjoy, trapping like no one else to control the play sweetly. Lauryn and Gracie made full use of their speed to push hard in the Strikers’ end. Hanna is getting closer to pulling the proverbial trigger and make use of great passing from the back to get one in. Faye tried out some really cool high-level moves to slip past unsuspecting opponents and set the stage for future confidence.
The Storm takes on Burnaby Momentum for all the marbles in the championship. If you are anywhere on Feb. 28 it better be on the sidelines of Kinnikinnick Park to see the final Storm, where the earth will shake and the pride of our Coast, the Sunshine Coast U13 Girls soccer team, will turn the whole season of hard work and practice into greatness, at the very least.
