The Vancouver Coastal Soccer Team came in third place at the BC Provincial Championships last weekend.

Keegan Inkster, Keeran Peel and Everett August – playing on the Vancouver Coastal Soccer Team – took third in the BC Provincial Championships in Prince George last weekend.

The boys started off the tournament with a strong 11-0 win against the Interior Heat. Later that afternoon they played the Islanders team and beat them 3-0.

The team had to wait all day Saturday for the third game and didn’t play until 4 p.m. against Fraser. They ended up losing that game 7-0, which was an upset.

Goalie Keeran Peel had so many breakaways on him, the outlook began to seem bleak. Some guys got into their own heads, and mentally gave up before the game even started.

In the last game the team played for third place against a second team from the Island and beat them 9-0. Things were looking up but unfortunately the boys did not make the qualifiers to represent B.C. for the North American Indigenous Games next summer. Sadly, this was their last chance as they will be too old next time around.

The Vancouver Coastal Region encompasses Squam-ish, Sunshine Coast, Sliam-mon and North Vancouver.

A personal apology from the coaches and manager as well as from the organizers of the tournament go out to Trevor Julius for the miscommunication by all regarding his birthdate year. Unfortunately, Trevor was not eligible to play in this age bracket and had made the trip for nothing. The players, coaches and managers felt the frustration of losing this brilliant player.

This weekend is the shíshálh Labour Day Soccer Tournament at Ted Dixon Park in Sechelt. Four women’s teams and 11 men’s teams will be playing to honour the memories of Ian Dixon, Barry (Baba) Johnson, Summer August, Rachel Pinchbeck, Kyle August, Kirby Jackson Sr. and Nathan Jackson.

Games start at 9 a.m. and go all day.
