Eight Sunshine Coast Skating Club skaters took part in their first “virtual” competition ever at the 2021 B.C. Coast Regional Event held May 13-16.
Taking part were 515 Skaters, STAR 2 to Gold and Artistic, from all over the B.C. Coast Region (Lower Mainland and surrounding clubs from Powell River, Whistler and out to Chilliwack).

They were videoed in their own arenas, while adhering to strict COVID protocols in place at the time, and then those videos were submitted to the provincial skating organization to prepare for the competition.

The videos were then trimmed, categorized, normalized for sound and colour ahead of time and displayed remotely in real-time for each event of the competition to all the skating judges, who evaluated each from the comfort of their homes throughout the province.
The skaters had to be videoed two months before the competition actually took place.

Sadly, the club’s skaters missed out on the spring competition (Victoria Day Interclub) due to the lack of local ice. For the rest of the spring season, SCSC skaters have been travelling to Vancouver in April, May and June. Some will continue attending Summer Schools in July until ice returns to the Coast in August.
