From May 17 to 19 Sun-shine Coast Cycling Club (SCC) downhill riders travelled to Kamloops for the Race the Ranch event - the first of six B.C. Cup downhill series races this year. The top half of the Kamloops course was extremely steep and challenging with many tight off-camber corners on a sand, grass and sagebrush covered hill. Dropping off the top into a rolling sidehill traverse had the riders on their pedals, setting up for a series of jumps, tight corners and wall rides up the sandy hills. The course was dusty and temperatures were into the 30s.
SCC put in a good showing as Holly Feniak took first place in U15 women, Forrest Riesco was first in U15 men, and Harrison took fifth place.
In U19 junior women, Jenna took the win, while Linden Feniak was second in U17 men. Dillon Mennie raced in the huge junior men 17 to 18 category and finished 16th. Simon Young and Cameron Colleypriest both raced in the new U19 citizen category and both completed the challenging course. Cameron crossed the finish with a broken chain. Across the country in Bromont, Quebec, Sebas-tian received a letter of "upgrade" to compete with the juniors 17 to 18 at the Canada Cup race and finished a respectable fifth in a field of 40.
Sebastian was racing for Team B.C., the Cycling B.C. sponsored team. Team B.C. had four members finish in the top 10 at Bromont including the top two spots. Team B.C. travels to St. Anne's in Quebec for the second Canada Cup race this weekend.
Many of SCC's cross country team members will compete in the Cow Trail Classic B.C. Cup race this weekend in Merritt.
