The Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club hosted the 2017 BC Senior Women’s Championship from June 20 to 22. The event brought 60 golfers from the Interior, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan and the Lower Mainland to the Sunshine Coast for a great week of golf.
After three rounds of competition the tournament came down to the final hole. Holly Horwood of Shaughnessy made a clutch sand save from the greenside bunker on 18 to post a total of 241 for three days. Karen Pultz of Peace Portal in Surrey struggled on the final hole, and her double bogey six resulted in her falling back into a tie.
A playoff hole ensued and this time Pultz saved par from the front of the green with a chip and a putt. Horwood ran her putt for the win six feet by, and missed her second putt. Pultz claimed her first BC Senior Women’s title.
Deb Sneddon was the lone representative from the Sunshine Coast and posted her lowest round on day two with a score of 88, finishing 43rd overall.
The golf course exceeded all the players’ expectations and many kudos were offered to Nathan Wade and his crew.
Events of this magnitude require a great deal of volunteer time. Linda Code was the local tournament chair who made this happen. Many thanks to Code and all the members who offered their time to make the tournament a success. Also thanks to our tournament sponsors IGA, SuperValu and Claytons.
