Chinook swimmers excel at regional championships

The Chinook Swim Club attended Lower Mainland Regional Championships on Feb. 8 and 9 at Watermania in Richmond. Swimmers qualified for the meet with age-specific 200 Individual Medley qualifying times.

The Chinook Swim Club attended Lower Mainland Regional Championships on Feb. 8 and 9 at Watermania in Richmond. Swimmers qualified for the meet with age-specific 200 Individual Medley qualifying times.

Swimmers who attended this meet were Eloise Allen, Ava Hynd, Francis Allen, Keira Hynd, Rory Scott, Robert VanLuven and Noah Grant-Byrnes. All athletes performed personal bests. Some of the highlights from the meet were as follows: 

Eloise Allen, 15, achieved four gold medals in 100 fly (1:05.88, 19 and over provincial time), 400 free (4:40.37, 15-18 provincial time), 200 fly (2:36.43, 15-18 provincial time), and 200 free (2:11.45, 15-18 provincial time). 

Noah Grant-Byrnes, 17, achieved a gold medal in 50 free (26.43, provincial time 16-18), and a bronze in 200 Breast (3:03.25) and 100 Backstroke (1:10.32). 

Ava Hynd (13) achieved gold medals in 200 BK (2:36.18, provincial time 13-14) and in 100 Bk (1:10.83, provincial time 15-16). She also achieved a bronze medal in 50 free (29.38).

Rory Scott, 14, achieved gold medals in 400 Individual Medley (5:10.67, 16-18 provincial time), and in 200 Fly (2:32.47, 16-18 provincial time). He also achieved a silver medal in 200 Backstroke with a time of (2:28.00, 16-18 provincial time) and a bronze medal in 200 BR (2:49.39, 15 and under provincial time). 

“Congratulations to all of the swimmers in attendance,” the club said in a release. “Your success is a direct reflection of your dedication to the sport.”
