C1 Blues finish second in league

Peewee hockey

The Sunshine Coast Peewee C1 Blues took second place in the Tier 1 Banner Game on Thursday, March 9 at Harry Jerome Rec Centre in North Vancouver. It was an excellent game with end-to-end action, outstanding sportsmanship, limited penalties and both teams kept their heads in the game until the very end. These two very well matched Peewee teams – North Vancouver C3 and Sunshine Coast C1 – made the 4-3 loss a tight race to the finish.

Nervous tension in the stands echoed off the walls as we waited for the kids to take the ice. When they made their way into the arena, they looked excited and ready to play the game. The first period ended with a score of 1-1, the second proved more difficult with a 4-1 lead for North Van and then in the third period our Blues fought back hard, making two more goals demonstrating integrity and heartfelt enthusiasm all the way.

A crushing defeat for the Sunshine Coast Peewee C1 team, the kids managed their feelings well, and we were all filled with pride as they took the ice unanimously in a standing ovation, sticks down, in a salute to the winning team after the handshake.

Our tireless coach Michael Ricard has driven the kids with hard work and enthusiasm through a very successful year with 11 wins, four ties and only two losses. Finishing second in the Lions Gate League out of 13 teams is a pretty solid finish to a great year of minor hockey. As always – Go Blues!
