Bike riding in winter

Mountain Biking

Mountain bike riding in the winter? Who would think it’s possible to find a trail worth riding this time of year? Most of the trails could possibly have snow on them or some big puddles and there also might be some nasty muddy sections.

Where can avid mountain bikers take their new bikes they got from Santa? Do they have to wait until springtime to try them out? No, Sechelt is a place where winter is not a season – it is an elevation.

One of the lower level trails that is passable this time of the year is found on Redrooffs Road just across the road from the entrance to Sargeant Bay Park. There is ample parking at the entrance to the trail and there are plenty of trails to explore.  You could spend the best part of the day riding the trails in this area.

A good route is to start on Sargeant Bay trail, turn right onto Roller Coaster, turn left onto Datsun Alley and ride all the way to the Datsun. Then, turn around and enjoy an exciting downhill ride back to your vehicle. It is a fast and enjoyable downhill ride on wide double-track and single-track trails. The trails are smooth, hilly and adventurous. The uphill climb to the Datsun is easy. I estimate that it might be 30 to 60 metres in elevation.

This trail is also a good trail for anyone who likes to walk in the forest. Get out there and enjoy.
