On Saturday, June 6 in Saskatoon, Sask., 15-year-old Beau Smith boxed for the WBC Canada youth title at the Canadian Youth Championships.
Beau lost a close decision to hometown fighter Mason Rachey.
Beau said he felt relaxed but in hindsight said he could have thrown more punches and he waited a bit too long to unload with combinations of punches.
With this experience gained on the national stage, Beau is very encouraged as a member of Team BC and wants to have more fights and then rematch Richey for the Canadian title.
Beau is the Sunshine Coast Boxing Club’s second national silver medalist along with George Vourtsis, who fought for the Canadian senior title in 2013.
Beau was accompanied on the 18-hour trip to Saskatoon by coach Randy Hollett.
Beau would like to thank Sunshine Coast Boxing Club coaches Hollett and Vourtsis for their efforts in preparing him for his Canadian title shot.
