Beach volleyball league launched

Pender Harbour

Friday, March 31 saw the first practice night for the newly formed Beach Volleyball League of Pender Harbour. They will practise every Friday evening in the PH Secondary School gym from 7 to 9 p.m. and, once the weather improves, will permanently play outdoors.

Pender Harbour’s newest beach doesn’t have any water, and it’s in the middle of the Elementary School playground, but there’s lots of room to wiggle your toes in the sand and work on your serve.

“The Pender Harbour league is founded on the belief that players will best be served by a safe and healthy environment that cultivates a long-term love of the game,” said founder Amanda Peterson.

“While being very competitive is good, we do not believe in winning at all costs and will make a strong effort to include all.”

Key concepts of the PH Beach Volleyball League:

• Player safety and concern above all.

• Having fun to enjoy and foster a love of the game.

• Valuing and respect for teammates, coaches, opponents and officials.

• Bringing together the teams to achieve greatness.

Come out and see why beach volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
