The Elphinstone Grade 8 Bantam girls have had an excellent season. They won every game in the Western division – except in their final match against Handsworth – and came in second on the North Shore. The top two teams of each district are automatically entered into the Vancouver and District Championships, which took place on Nov. 17.
The Bantam girls won the first two games and advanced to the final match against their rivals from Handsworth. The girls played an excellent game to win the title in the final set.
Jan Fitzsimmons coaches the Bantam girls with Brittin Korsh, who also coaches the Elphinstone Senior girls’ team with head coach Jan Richey. The Senior girls had a very strong season but unfortunately did not advance to Provincials this year.
The Elphinstone Junior girls’ team also came in second in the North Shore league. They took fourth place in the Vancouver and District Championships, which was enough to secure them a spot in Provincials, which take place in North Delta on Nov. 25 and 26.
